主要科研领域与方向:
家蚕分子生物学、基因组与功能基因组,利用转基因等技术进行家蚕品种改良和素材创新等。
 
科学成就:
一、完成中国家蚕基因组计划
2004年绘制了6X家蚕全基因组框架图,负责项目策划、测序指挥到论文撰写,以第一作者在Science上发表成果。2008年与日本合作,绘制了家蚕基因组9X精细图谱,并作为客座编辑组织了Insect Biochem  Mol Biol《家蚕基因组特别刊》,以第一作者发表了主题论文。2009年完成了40个蚕品系的基因组重测序和高精度遗传变异图谱绘制。发现1600万个SNP位点、31万个插入缺失突变和3.5万个基因组结构变异,发现家蚕由中国野桑蚕而来的驯化为单一事件,并以第一作者在Science上发表成果。
二、建立家蚕功能基因组研究平台技术
主持构建了家蚕遗传数据库SilkDB,成为国际蚕学和昆虫学领域基因组权威数据平台;主持研制了世界首张家蚕全基因组Oligo芯片,完成了家蚕10万条EST测序和32个重要组织、器官的基因表达分析。主持建立了国际一流的基因定位克隆、RNAi、转基因和基因定向敲除等平台。整体水平居国际领先,部分成果已发表于PNAS、Genome Bio、Nucleic Acids Res和Transgenic Res等。
三、在重要基因鉴定和功能解析方面有众多发现
提出了蚕丝蛋白合成、性别决定、免疫调控和发育与变态等为家蚕功能基因组研究中的首要目标并得到国内外同行认可。围绕该四大性状,系统鉴定分析了主要性状相关调控基因3000余个,重点克隆研究了50余个关键基因的功能,申请基因专利36余项,在Nat Biotechnol、Plos One、Genomics、BMC Dev Biol、Dev Comp Immunol和Insect Biochem Mol Biol等杂志发表家蚕研究论文超过200篇,影响因子合计逾300分。
四、国际交流与人才培养
多次被相关国际学术会议选为执行主席和特邀报告人,并在澳大利亚国立大学、墨尔本大学等四所知名大学讲学。先后主持8个重要国际合作项目。被聘为教育部“长江学者”和“长江学者与创新团队发展计划”创新团队带头人,973首席科学家,省部学科及学术技术带头人,主持973、863等项目30余个,获“十一五”国家科技计划执行突出贡献奖。先后获全国五一劳动奖章、光华工程科技奖青年奖、全国优秀科技工作者、中国青年科技奖、全国师德先进个人、全国纺织行业年度创新人物、桑麻纺织科技大奖、重庆杰出贡献英模和重庆市优秀共产党员等荣誉和称号。已培养毕业博士研究生17人、硕士研究生38人,指导留学生2人,他们中先后获中国青少年科技创新奖、全国“挑战杯”一等奖、澳大利亚化学感受科学大会“最佳学生奖”等多项奖励。
